Day 170 - 172 Swan Valley to Gingin

A little bit of peace and quiet

sunny 25 °C

The Swan Valley Tourist and Caravan Park was the most expensive campsite we stayed at ($40 per night) and the sites were not very good for camper trailers as most of the site was made up of concrete. The whole caravan park was rundown and not worth the money. There was no where for me to run around and it was very noisy. I’m giving it 2 paws out of 5 paws.

We decided to spend a few days at a Willowbrook Farm caravan park near Gingin and then do a couple of day trips. We were looking forward to some peace and even though our neighbours were really close to us, they were very quiet.

Mum has become lazy and hasn’t bothered driving in ages so poor Dad just has to do EVERYTHING!. So he drove us to New Norcia which is Australia’s only monastic town. It was a very unusual place and you would expect it to be quiet because it’s full of monks (well there’s only 8 left) but it's right near a main road with too many trucks passing by.

You may actually be wondering why I know so much about New Norcia, It’s because I went on a walking tour with Mum and Dad. The tour guide said that I could walk around with everyone and then when we went inside the buildings I could be tied up. I was happy to hear about the history of the place. (I’m probably a lot more intelligent than most people on the tour). We walked around for 2 hours and the guide was very informative and the place was beautiful. All the buildings were huge. We didn’t get to meet any monks because they were too busy praying (they pray 6 times a day - a bit excessive if you ask me)

We had lunch at the hotel and I was allowed to sit with the oldies outside on the deck. The lunch was good and Dad had the monk’s abbey ale and he said it was really nice.

We also spent a nice day in Guilderton. We walked around a little and then spent the rest of the day at the beach. It wasn’t exactly a leash free area but there was no one on the beach so I got to run around. While Mum read her book because that’s what she likes to do at the beach, me and Dad just did father and son stuff.

Later in the evening Mum and Dad enjoyed some drinks and nibbles with other people from the campsite. They left me alone in the tent (with the silent neighbours) for over an hour. BORING!
